Welcome

The objective of the Research Unit in Epidemiology and Risk analysis applied to Veterinary sciences is to acquire and disseminate knowledge on epidemiology and risk analysis of diseases with veterinary interest, including emerging, vector, exotic and wildlife diseases as well as zoonotic diseases, with the aim to improve the veterinary public health throughout the world and to sustain livestock development and, more generally, to the good of humanity.

Its missions include research, education and expert activities.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH is oriented to field epidemiology studies of animal or zoonotic diseases and risk analysis in the food chain, including primary production. The main interest is the analysis of the key factors for emergence of diseases, rare events and spreading of infectious and parasitic diseases.

EDUCATION ACTIVITIES concern undergraduate students (seminar on animal and society, basic veterinary public health and epidemiology applied to veterinary medicine), graduate students (epidemiology and risk analysis applied to animal diseases, legal dispositions in the control of transmissible diseases, law and veterinary medicine), Master of veterinary sciences (complements in epidemiology, and principles, concepts and methods of risk analysis related to foodstuffs of animal origin) and continuing education programmes for veterinary practitioners (e.g. interdisciplinary courses of infectiology and epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases).

DISSEMINATION OF KNOWLEDGE is ensured by scientific, technical and professional publications, by communication to media when public information is requested, as well as by the participation to national and international expert committees.
